Swans

M00440M

Reflection in Waterfowl Lake with wildflowers and Waputik Mountains. Banff National Park, Canada

A swan is graceful,

long and lanky.

They can fly in

a straighter line

than I can draw

with a ruler.

No one gets

“out of line”

within a swan

V formation.

You don’t see any

W’s or Z’s, for

instance–maybe

a Y, now and then.

They fly high over

the city, daring

to come down

low only over

barren fields

or possibly in

the protection &

disorientation

of fog.
