Discovery

I want to wander and explore,

off on my own, into the beauty

of nature.

I’m just 8 or 9, no matter my

“now” age.

I discover hidden riches:

golf balls, a nine iron, someone

felt didn’t hit straight enough,

in the grass.

Birds are everywhere.  The wind

whispers through the pines

as they sway and dance to the

heavens, on blustery days.

Frogs, snakes, water spiders.

Butterflies of all sorts

flitting through the

sunlight and shade

on a wayward course

like a drunken sailor

making his way

to the sweetness of a

blossom, or just to

sun awhile, on a limb.

This is the world of my

mind–half in,

half out–constantly

being distracted by

the surrounding

splendor.
