A Match

How come you never

came knocking before?

Was it that my shutters

were closed

my doors and windows

boarded up?

Yes, I did carefully

measure how much

feeling I invested

in another.

I can be reserved

and still let you

know who I am.

You’re careful

around fire

and feelings

not to get

burned.

But that doesn’t

mean you

don’t strike

a match.
