The Other Side of the World

Saguaro and cholla cactus at sunset. Sonoran Desert, Arizona

I don’t want to go to bed.

Just write until it’s all

out of me.  None so good

a listener as my empty page.

I know when I’m nearing

empty and I feel I’ve

said all I feel the strength,

or need, to say at this time.

That’s a good feeling.  Sometimes

I cut it short for fear

of not getting enough sleep.

My loss, really-and others

who may read it-a shop

’til you drop mentality.

Besides, it’s more for me

and you’re probably already

asleep anyway, unless

your side of the world is

just waking up–then

I’m good to go, I guess.
