Getting Away

I’ve seen the city

its four walls

more than enough.

I long for trees.

For denseness

that obscures

vision in every

direction.

The hush of enclosure.

The excitement of

discovery.

Turn over a new

leaf

and see what

creatures reside there.

The rushing stream-

the most assault

on my ears.

The cry of a hawk.

The wind through

the pines.

I don’t want

to ever return

to the concrete

jungle I live in.
