The heat
evaporates water.
It’s gone when it’s gone
and more won’t come
until the rain returns.
Not likely anytime soon
in the middle of the
summer.
There hasn’t even been
water for many years.
Drought played bully.
Beat up our land
and our animals.
And now their
party is ending.
Their own private
watering hole
is drying up–
will be gone
in a few days.
I was glad it
was there this year.
So were the creatures
that hung out there
daily.
It’s a long walk
for the turtles to
the next watering
hole–bigger, and will
survive the summer.
