Cooperate

Even the birds were in church

this morning.

All except the Canadian geese

sleeping by the riverside

on one leg.

One sentinel kept a sharp eye

on me as I walked by

turning his head on his

immobile, one-legged

body to follow my path.

Can we put such trust

in our leaders to protect

us while we sleep?

It must be.

One leads the V taking

turns.

If we don’t cooperate

our days are numbered.

Nature’s simplicity

know that.

The only races there

are are when you’re

for breakfast.

Otherwise, we all

work together

for the greatest

good of all.
