Earthworm

You think the sun’s

going to never shine.

You may be right

if you’re an earthworm

and never come up

for air.

Tunneling through the

darkness all of your days

facing another wall

of dirt to burrow through

endlessly.

On the other hand, (do

worms have hands?–or

even feet–look how much

work they get done, being

handicapped like that) on

the other hand if you angle

your trajectory upwards

toward the

sky

you may break

through

to a new light of day

which means you’d

be out of a job

but at least you

may be a lot happier

getting some rays.
