Shooting Stars

Shooting stars

they’re way up there

likely as not you’ll hit one

or maybe that’s not your aim.

You just want to let off

steam.

If you accidently hit a star

it would certainly fall

to earth, deader than

a doornail.

Sometimes they fall–

free fall–without

a shot fired.

They’re spending

their last seconds

in earth’s atmosphere,

or if they make it

to land, a new home

in the ground they’re

treated to.
